Default I am looking for new pickups, would like some input on what to get.

I have a mid to late 90's Bentley Series 10, that I got for cheap the pickups on it are pretty rusty and sound horrid. I am wondering what I should replace them with. Any suggestions would be real helpful. My band plays Punk/Metal, and I am looking for a nice low tone, not too muddy, but a little punch with it would be nice.

It would help to know what kind of pickups it currently has - split P? Jazz? MM? Soapbars?

I've only tried one aftermarket bass pup. It came from Guitar Fetish Store. It was a MM. Can't remember all the details, but I like the pup. It cost about $30 something. Check them out. I tried many of their guitar pups and I like them.

I have an ax with a "Diesel" MM-type single
PU. It's an economy PU but it sounds great,
not harsh, kinda deep, but not muddy. OK,
it also has a fancy active eq-pre ... but the
old trash-in-trash-out rule apllies to active
systems, so it must be a decent PU !

P-type split PU's are near universally good.
I'd suggest one without exposed poles, so
you can raise it way up and wail on it, but
without the strings hitting the pole slugs. I
know the Bartolini has covered poles, and
there may be others. Most P-type PU's are
reasonably priced. It's those big MM-types
    that get pricey.

Thank you. That was helpful. I am running out to look this weekend. I am looking to spend as little as possible and still get the sound I am looking for.

I have used the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P pickup before, it has a high output and should give you plenty punch.
